JPH117- Torah Talks & Teachings I
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class provides a text-based view of the weekly Torah portion based on Sichot [scholarly lectures] by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson. Each week a Sicha is studied that relates the Torah portion to modern day living in ways that are immediate and relevant to students.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Familiarity with the differing styles of Sichot, such as the earlier Yiddish style Sichot, Rashi Sichot, Sichot focusing on Likkutei Levi Yitzchok, etc.

Appreciation for the literary style of Sichot, including the way that an issue or topic is dissected or explored in the Rebbe’s unique analytical style

A deeper understanding of the weekly Torah portion’s underlying spiritual themes

A greater facility to explicate the weekly Torah portion in a manner that demonstrates its relevance to modern life
