TORAH THROUGH THE ARTS

This course provides time and space for students to engage in creative, hands-on experiences which (1) deepen knowledge of a key idea -- generally from the Torah portion of the week (2) build skills in various artistic forms (3) foster connection between creative expression and spirituality.

This course examines the concept of “Hamaaseh hu ha’ikar” -- in Judaism action is the main thing, the essential way we connect to Hashem and others.

EDU 111

TORAH THROUGH THE ARTS PRACTICUM

This course builds on EDU 101 and JPH 170 to help students develop the skills they need to develop and facilitate creative educational experiences. Course lessons, group work, and student teaching provide the experience and knowledge for students to develop age-appropriate curricula and to understand and apply a range of pedagogical practices, with a particular focus on arts integration in Jewish learning.

EDU 101

INTRO TO EDUCATION

This course provides a theoretical foundation for understanding the process of learning and teaching. Focus will be placed on human psychology as it relates to learning and teaching as well as on educational methodology and teaching skills. Coursework will be approached from the perspective of both Torah and science, with an eye toward identifying overlap and distinction between them.
